MARTIN CHINA WORLDS UPDATES:
USA Dominates 14&under
I’ve been holed up in the
hotel all day, eating my own cooked American
pasta and chicken out of my hot pot watching the
race from the comfort of my rock hard bed. BMX
made primetime TV today with live coverage of
the race. It was a very professional show ran
just like an NBA basketball game with
commentators and a sports center type desk
surrounded by UCI logos, instant replay action,
and theme music that sounded like kids singing “lalalalala.”
Because it was in Chinese I
had a hard time distinguishing who was who in
the USA jerseys, but I saw A LOT of Americans
out front... I was able to pick out Volle and
Heffron for big wins in the main and I was told
tonight that of the 15 categories racing today,
7 of them were wins for the USA and that’s with
3 categories containing no USA riders! Nice job
Groms!. I saw a few rad crashes on the third and
last straight, the instant replay action came in
handy there. They just ran 14 and under
today…tomorrow will be the 16 and over class,
followed by Elites practice. We get to finally
race on Saturday and then its just killing
time…

MARTIN CHINA WORLDS UPDATE:
Tiyuan, China--where is the
sun?
Homeostasis: the
property to regulate the internal environment of
the body so as to maintain a stable, constant
condition. In essence, the human body
loves routine. Whether it’s eating, sleeping,
exercising or just about anything done on a
regular basis, the body strives to maintain
homeostasis by keeping itself on a schedule. So
traveling through time zones can be a tricky
thing, but lucky for us the human body also
operates on principle of adaptation, or the
ability for an individual to rapidly adapt to
its environment.
Now that the biology
refresher course is up, I guess what I am trying
to say is that my first 24 hours in Tiyuan have
been pretty rough as my body is trying to adapt.
Hungry in the middle of the night, no appetite
during the day, and cant hardly keep my eyes
open at 4pm. I woke up to look out the window
this morning and could barely see the building a
block away. I didn’t expect the air quality to
be worse than Beijing, but it was . Since I was
flat as a pancake I didn’t even attempt to go
outside before 2pm when we headed over to the
track to check it out. The air outside was
choking and I honestly felt like the hour I
spent at the track I had chain smoked a pack of
cigs. I learned from Todd (one of the USAC staff
who lives in Beijing) that what we were seeing
was really the combination of a sandstorm
blowing over from the Gobi mixed with pollution.
Apparently the sand is very fine, like baby
powder so when it blows over like this its
nearly impossible to differentiate from the
pollution. Either way it sucks for the lungs,
but he said the storm should blow over in a day
or two.
The venue itself was pretty
cool, they obviously spent a lot of money on
landscaping and logistics to set the track up,
including an 8 man BMX sculpture that had
everyone stoked. As for the track, it was a bit
of a shock to see small jumps again because all
I have been focusing on is supercross, but it
looks super fun with an awesome rhythm section
down the third straight that I am looking
forward to riding.
Some of the interesting food
items on the menu today: cow Achilles, parts of
pig head, beef tongue, horse, and duck.
Tomorrow we will have a
practice session in the evening then a day off
before we hit it again Friday.

RESULTS AT UCI SUPERCROSS IN DENMARK
- Copenhagen, Denmark -
Arielle Martin and Jonathan Suarez made a great
showing in Denmark, the last UCI Supercross
before the Olympics. Suarez fought through a
tough field to nab 6th, coming back from dead
last after a terrible gate. Martin, who had a
challenging class to say the least with Great
Britain's Shanaze Reade and France's terrible
two Corguille and Chausson in the mix, made a
decent impression with a fifth, the only
Americanwoman to make the main.
Heres Arielle's wrapup:
"What a day in the books! I
must say I am SOOO glad its over. 5th place
overall finish, of course nobody WANTS to go
into a race to finish 5th and I made some
mistakes in the main but all things considered I
can't complain. The competition for the women
was harder than Australia with the addition of
the Frenchies and ole Shizzy add to that
difficulties with the track and I will take
those 5th place points to give ma a little
breathing room on the USA Olympic points board.
Not confirmed yet, but it should give me a 13
point lead. With only one race left to get
points I am feeling pretty good about things.
Shanaze won, Le Corguille 2nd and Chausson 3rd.
TB, Meadows, JRog, JRich, Bubs, NLong all rode
great today in TT but got stuck in their 1/8
round motos. Amanda didn't make it out of the
1/4 round motos but Lil Sush made it all the way
to her semi with a fractured thumb. Props to
her. I honestly didnt think dR was going to make
it out of 1/8s after a crash and a 5th but Mr.
Consistent pulled it off and brought home a HUGE
win. KB officially can say now that he has
locked first place points slot for the games
with his 4th place finish in the main.
Personally my money was on Cisar but he got hung
up in his semi along with 365, Foxy and Hermie
who were both killing it all day as well. 4
Americans in one semi (those 3+KB) was hard
enough... add in Prokop and a Latvian robot and
well, definitely not easy. Latvian robot
holeshotted the main but Aussie sensation Jared
Graves quickly took over the lead. dR set him up
going into the 2nd corner and the rest is
history. The DON now has 2 supercross wins under
his belt, I could be wrong but I believe he is
the only Elite man to do that this year.
My Formula teammate Jonathan Suarez rode fast to
a 6th place finish in the main event and I have
to give another round of props out to Kris Fox
who with his performance today (unofficially)
landed that unclaimed 8th rider slot for the
Mens Olympic Trials event next month.

MARTIN INTERVIEW, NEW YORK TIMES:
April 13, 2008
Husband and Wife Wear the
Colors, Far Removed
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (AP)
— Arielle Martin’s husband is never there to
see the hours of training she puts in on her
bike these days. He is not home for dinner,
or to talk about her day. He does not go to
her BMX races, or follow her around the
globe as she competes for a spot on the
United States Olympic team.
She does not mind at all.
Wearing the country’s
colors is of supreme importance to Martin
and her husband, Specialist Mike Verhaaren.
She hopes to put on the
red, white and blue in Beijing at the
Olympics this summer. He wears green — Army
green — every day, serving the United States
in Afghanistan, flying and maintaining Black
Hawk helicopters.
Martin is not shy about
saying that makes her covet even more the
chance to represent her country on a big
sports stage.
“It’s hard, but he is so
supportive,” Martin, who uses her maiden
name professionally, said in a recent
interview after a training session in
California. “From Day 1, he wanted me to do
this and was fine with the sacrifice and us
spending so much time apart. Conversely, I
was fine with him joining, and since he
joined during wartime, I knew he was going
to deploy. So here we are. The timing just
happened to be impeccable.”
The way she sees it, they
deployed on the same day in January.
He left for his overseas
assignment. She left for Southern
California, moving to her temporary home at
the United States Olympic raining Center,
the quasi headquarters for BMX training in
this country. She trains as much as she
likes on a track that is a replica of the
one to be used in Beijing this summer, when
BMX makes its Olympic debut.
“As hard as me being gone
is for us, it in some ways has helped her to
train harder and stay more focused then she
would have been with me home,” Verhaaren
said from his base in Afghanistan. “She has
told me several times that the more she
trains, the more it takes her mind off the
sadness of being apart. And it has made
things easier for me while I’m gone, knowing
that she has something that she loves to
do.”
In fact, Martin’s Olympic
quest has given a big morale boost to other
soldiers with Verhaaren at
Bagram Air Base, the main American
military installation in Afghanistan.
“I brag about her all the
time,” Verhaaren said. “She has her own
cheering section out here in Afghanistan.
They are pushing me to get some pictures
sent out here for them of her riding with
our unit patch on and signed for them. They
all are very supportive of her and what she
is doing.”
With three races left in
USA Cycling’s qualification schedule for the
Beijing Games — a series that resumed
Saturday in Australia — Martin was second, 2
points behind her roommate in Chula Vista,
Jill Kintner. The United States is expected
to be able to send two women to the
Olympics, although the second start position
has not been officially locked down.
At her current pace,
Martin should be Beijing-bound.
“Arielle’s a smart
woman,” said Mike King, USA Cycling’s BMX
director and a former BMX world champion.
“She’s very detail oriented, and I think
that plays a role in who she is as a person.
For her to go through this and be in a
relationship and to accept it, she’s doing a
fantastic job. Arielle has done everything
we’ve asked her to do. She’s fulfilled every
goal we’ve set to this point.”
It has not been easy. She
misses her husband. Her husband misses her,
too.
“I thought I might be
able to handle being away for 15 months on a
deployment, but I was sorely mistaken,”
Verhaaren said. “It’s been so much harder
than I could have imagined being away from
her.
“There are nights that I
lay in bed just wanting to be there for her
to help her along, kiss her bruises and
bumps from the races and be there to support
her and cheer for her. But I can’t. I’m
needed here.”
In her line of work,
bruises and bumps are a constant issue.
The 22-year-old Martin
has had more injuries than most athletes
have in a career — although that is not
uncommon in the rough-and-tumble world of
BMX. She has bruised her liver, lungs and
kidneys, and she shredded her knee about a
year ago in a wreck that not only cost her
some sponsors, but also threatened to derail
her Olympic plans.
These days, she feels
great, even while the Olympic race becomes
ever tighter.
“It’s a little
stressful,” Martin said. “Jill and I sleep
six feet away from each other in a tiny
little dorm. But I just focus on what I can
do, and I can’t really think about what
she’s going to do.”
Martin’s father raced BMX
when she was growing up, so it is not a huge
shock that by the time she was 5, she was
winning races.
At 10, she was vying for
national titles. By 14, she was winning
them. A year later, she turned pro, and the
Olympic dream took hold a couple of years
after that. She doesn’t want to let her
husband down.
“We were mentally
prepared for this to happen,” Martin said.
“We talk every day. He has phone access.
We’re trying to get him a pass to come to
the Games, if I make the team. I want him
there to see me. I thrive off it. It gives
me more energy, more motivation.
“I don’t want to let the
sport down or my country down. This is what
I’m living for and I want to represent as
well as I can.”
Those who know her best
would not expect anything else.
“She has a goal at her
fingertips and she knows how close she is to
accomplishing that goal, to make the Olympic
team,” King said. “To see Arielle do all
this, in their relationship, and have this
opportunity, it’s nice. Her husband is
serving America. If I was in her position,
that would mean a lot to me, and having a
chance to represent her country on an
athletic and global stage means a lot to her
as well.”

MARTIN AUSTRALIA UPDATE –Adelaide,
Australia -
"Had quite the day today,
almost missed practice this morning because they
changed the schedule so we rolled in late and I
wasnt warmed up resulting in lots of
squirrlyness, not a great way to start the day.
Changed my gear today for the race and spent
more time focusing on that and less time
practicing the track. I won my first two rounds
of the semi killing it down the first straight.
Third semi I bonked on the third straight and
Sarah pulled me passing me at the line. I should
have practiced that straight more especially
since it was the same section that I gave up
time on that lost me the time trial yesterday,
but too late to go back.
I did 98 things right today, and two things
wrong, so if we are going off percentages I
guess you could say rocked! In the main event I
had a decent gate and excellent first straight
pull and before I knew it I was winning and
psyched! On the third straight I bonked on the
same section and lost a lot of speed. I knew
Sarah was coming for me but unsure where she was
at. She pulled a text book high low on me in the
last corner and we dragged the last straight.
The pressure was on and I bonked on a manual
again giving the win to Sarah and finishing 2nd.
Definitely bummed about losing, but overall I
have to be happy with the finish. Its my biggest
international finish of my professional career,
I scored big points for my country and put
myself back on top the leader board for the
Olympic selection.
David Herman pulled the upset of the year with a
BIG win in Elite men. None of the other men on
the funded team made it out of semis. Jill and
Amanda finished 5th and 7th behind me I
think.... Beast crashed for the 4th time this
weekend and Rachel missed the cut.
Thanks for all the support. Im flyin home in the
morning!"

POST AUSTRALIA UPDATE –Adelaide,
Australia -
This weekend didnt go quite
how I wanted...since I dont think anyone would
want to crash 4 times!! We started out on Friday
with some practice and I was pretty pumped
because I felt like i was riding really
wel...but then....I just couldn't be satisfied
with how I was taking the straight already and
had to try something else...and crashed. Nothing
too bad though, life went on. So after a few
minutes of break, I decide to go for the ramp,
which should have been easy. I have rode a few
of those now and am not very intimidated by the
hill anymore so I wasn't scared but STILL ended
up crashing over the first jump my first run
down the ramp. What happened was that the hill
was a little shorter because the race was
indoors and I forgot and took a normal amount of
pedals down the hill and ended up pedaling on
the kink....NO GOOD. i got squirrely before the
first jup but couldn't stop and went all crooked
to the ground. That crash took its toll on me
though because I couldn't practice anymore on
friday and I was a hurtin unit stil come
saturday..actually I am still a hurtin unit from
that. My groin and hip were what was hurting and
it was really hard to take strong first pedals.
So, that made me a little nervous when Saturday
practice came and it was ramp time. But, I ended
up going for it by the end of practice but never
hit the second jump on the first straight. Then
time trials rolled around and I was a little
nervous with the little practice I had but
figured I could take a safe lap rolling the
second jump since I knew there weren't 16 girls
jumping it. So I did that and stayed up for a
pretty slow, but good enough time to get
through. However, by second time trial I was
ready to ramp. I don't know why I didn't do it,
maybe nerves, but I didn't hit the second jump
AGAIN but ended up crashing going into the
SECOND turn. So thats three crashes. I was now
up to my whole left side of my body basically
needing bandages and a gimp leg, PLUS a fresh
gimp right quad from that last crash. However,
somehow I managed to stay in the top 16 with my
first time trial and if I was able to, had the
option to rcae sunday. I took care of myself
saturday and hoped I would magically heal for
sunday...which I somewhat did, good enough to
ride atleast. So, lil; run down me got up in the
gate for the semis today and had rough luck
AGAIN. First moto, I blew a tire in the second
turn and got passed by three people to get 7th,
so that was sweet. Second moto got my hopes up
because I got a really good start and was in
third, got a little ancy around the track and
was a bit sketchy, so right at the line I moved
back to 5th. But atleast I had finally hit the
second jump that moto so that was a confidence
boost. Anyways, come 3rd moto I was sittin on 12
and basically had to win to make the main, but i
didn't. I crashed down the first stright AGAIN.
wasn't my fault though, some girl hit me in the
air and I tried to avoid taking Amanda Geving
out and ended up taking myself out. But, in a
way, I was happy the weeked was over. My body
has taken a beating the last week and I am ready
to heal. haha, and see all my scabs in my prom
dress next weekend..haha. But anyways, in the
mains there was Amanda, Arielle, and Jill and
Arielle almost won but got past on the last
straight, and then Jill and amanda balled up on
the first straight and got 5th and 6th. And for
the guys, somehow David Herman was the only one
representing the USA in the main out of lane
number 8....AND WON. congrats!
We are taking off early
tomorrow morning though and now that you know
all the facts...I will fill ya in on mor detail
later. good'day mate~alise

UPDATE –Adelaide, Australi a
-
Arielle says:
"Team USA is sharing internet
access here at the Hilton. We went ahead and
bought internet for the week for just one room
and are sharing time on it so that we can keep
in touch with our internet dependant world. We
dont actually ride until tomorrow so the week
has been filled with playing cards and getting
in trouble.
Last night Bubba, Donny,
Cisar, Amanda, beast and I ran from the cops. We
rode our bikes to the track (about 2 miles) to
check it out and were stopped by a police
officer who informed us that we werent allowed
to ride without helmets (a fact we already knew
but chose to ignore because we didnt want to
ride in our full face helmets) we were told its
like a $500 fine that he would gladly hand out
but he was blocking traffic and that we had to
walk our bikes, absolutely no riding. Well we
were pretty far from the hotel and still hadnt
made it to the track so we waited for him to
turn the corner and continued our ride. On the
way home he caught us and turned on his siren
but was stuck at a light. Bubba took off full
sprint and I followed suit sprinting the last 4
blocks to the hotel with the rest of the gang
behind us. He chased us all the way to the hotel
but we ran inside and caught an elevator before
he got out of the car. We were all pretty afraid
to go back down into the lobby for dinner so we
changed shirts, put on hats, and tried to look
as discrete as possible but he was gone when we
came back down.
Today some Aussie media
arranged for us to hang out with some Koalas and
Snakes. It was pretty rad. i am going to try and
post some pics in a new Aussie album so you can
check them out. The track looks pretty good, the
first jump is HUGE so its probably going to
sketch out a lot of girls, but for us Americans
we are excited to ride it. ill try to throw in
an update after the time trial Saturday, Peace"

MAY 4 , 2007..........FORMULA SIGNS
DINGER AND NORLES, DROPS KOBZA -
San Diego, California - Factory Formula
Bicycles / Monster Energy / Fly Racing's roster
just got a little bigger. The team has just
announced that it signed Elite Masters/Vet Pro
rider Tim Dinger (North Carolina) and 13 Expert
Andre Norles (Missouri) to the Factory Team
roster. They join BMX Racing's most elite group
of riders including 2006 NBL National #1 Donny
Robinson and 2006 ABA National #1 Alise Post.
Tim Dinger has been tearing
up the NBL Elite Master's class as of late,
scoring a ton of great finishes so far in '07.
Those of you who know Tim, know that he is
definitely a character as well being an
outstanding talent on a bike. He's seemingly
been on the podium all year and sitting third in
the standings behind Rupe and Carnes certainly
reflects that. Look for Tim to represent
Formula on his Solution Pro Plus on the East
Coast and select mid-west and western races as
well as the UCI Worlds in Canada this summer.
Andre Norles has been a
staple of the mid-west BMX scene since he was
just a small grom. Nowadays he's battling it
out in perhaps the sport's toughest class, 13
Expert. He's been rocking the Formula frame for
over a year now and with consistent podium
finishes, Formula felt the time was right for
Andre to step up to the Factory Team. Currently
in the NAG #7 position, look for Norles to move
up the ladder by hitting up the bigger west
coast ABA races. Andre's first race for the
Formula/Monster/Fly team will be ABA Roseville
next weekend.
Sadly, Formula has decided to
part ways with Lahsaan Kobza. Kobza has been a
great representative, but it seemed like he and
the team were moving in different directions and
management pulled the trigger. It was a
difficult decision, and he will be missed, but
Lahsaan is a great rider and will land on his
feet quickly.

FORMULA’S DONNY ROBINSON WINS UCI VIRGINIA
- Woodbridge, Virginia – Factory
Formula / Monster Energy / Fly Racing’s Donny
Robinson, rockin’ his new Formula/HP uniform,
killed it in Virginia with a UCI win on
Saturday. dR grabbed some much needed UCI
points and inched ever closer to that coveted
Olympic team roster spot. On his Solution Pro,
Donny backed up his win with a third place
podium finish in Elite Open. On Sunday, dR
showed the consistency that made him the most
successful pro in ’06, with a third place podium
finish in Elite Men’s. Another Formula
sponsored rider, Tim Dinger, rode his Solution
Pro Plus to a second and a third in Elite
Masters in Virginia.
dR has his eyes on the
Olympics and has been riding well in ’07. Two
weeks ago in Spain, against a stacked field,
Donny was the top American at the UCI Supercross
in Madrid with a fourth place in the main. Look
for dR next at ABA Roseville, where he hopes to

riders behind him, fighting for positions got
tangled up with each other. The race of the
weekend was our 2 Elite riders who cleaned up
the field by taking 1st and 2nd in the
mains.
One of the most spectacular finals ever
experienced with some huge doubles and triples,
Kane Herbert managed to get
into the lead and won the final main with
Jonnathan Chislett in second
place, Formula 1st and 2nd respectively. Jonnathan
Chislett won the overall weekend with
the new up and coming star, Kane Herbert
taking 2nd in the overall standing.
Congratulations to the team
manager, Gary Herbert and
Formula South Africa for
winning the overall team points with a
convincing lead over team GT
and Team GTR (Greg Till
Racing).
Thank you for the support and
huge effort of Bruce Mayer from
Action Sports Distributors, and
Will Rells from Formula
Bicycle Company for making the South
African team possible.

HOOKS UP WITH HEWLETT PACKARD
–Sarasota, Florida – Donny Robinson debuted
his newest
sponsor,
Hewlett Packard, in Florida last weekend.
Sporting his new Formula / HP uniform, donny
looked great on and off the track. Look for more
regarding the details of this landmark deal.
Formula and dR are always looking to bring the
best to BMX. Thanks to Big J at BmxMania.com for
the pic.
APRIL 1 , 2007..........LEE
LEWIS DOUBLES IN DESOTO
–Sarasota, Florida – Once again, Lee Lewis
showed why hes the number one 17-18 Expert in
the country right now, taking back to back wins
in Texas. Lee is on fire in '07!
MARCH 27, 2007..........FACTORY
FORMULA / MONSTER / FLY HEATS UP AT WINTERS
– Phoenix, Arizona – Formula Bicycle
Company sent three riders out to Phoenix to
represent Formula and it’s two partners, Monster
Energy Drink and Fly Racing. National #1
Women’s Pro, Alise Post was coming off a two
month break in which she concentrated on getting
a Minnesota state title in gymnastics. Post
felt a bit rusty, but you know you can never
count the champ out. Current 17-18 Expert
points leader Lee Lewis also made the trip to
Arizona to try to extend his NAG lead; every
point counts. 15 Expert Lahsaan Kobza made his
2007 debut in Phoenix. Rainy weather caused
some delays, but the track was good and ready to
rock.
Alise Post – Women’s
Pro – Formula Solution Pro Minus Hybrid -
Alise was in fine form and showed no
signs of rust winning lap after lap, culminating
in yet another Pro win on Saturday against the
likes of Phoenix local Kim Hayashi, no less. On
Sunday’s first main, Post was out front yet
again but crashed hard in the slippery first
turn and finished seventh. With her work cut
out for her, Post won the second two mains only
to come up one point short of Terra Nichols.
“The Beast” had to settle for second place on
Sunday but the weekend’s points were enough to
vault her back to the top of the 2007 ABA
Womne’s Pro points chase.
Lee
Lewis – 17 Expert – Formula Solution Pro –
Lee has been on a tear on 2007 and is
currently NAG #1 in 17-18 Expert points.
Saturday, Flea had a disastrous Open main,
squeaking out a 7th. Redemption came in his
Expert main, with yet another win and the top of
the podium. Sunday, Lewis once again struggled
in Open, but did well where it counts, finishing
third in class. Lee is still on top of the
17-18 Expert points heap.
Lahsaan Kobza - 15
Expert – Formula Solution Pro Plus –
Lahsaan hadn’t raced a national since ABA Grands
so he definitely had some rust to shake off. In
Saturday’s Open main, Kobza was leading until a
bobble threw him to the back of the pack. But
just like Lee, Kobza found his own redemption in
his class main, with his first win of the year.
Kobza battled sickness on Saturday night and
just wasn’t up to it on Sunday and bowed out.
One thing is for sure though, Kobza is back.
Where’s dR?
A ton of people have been
wondering what’s up with Donny and why haven’t
they seen him much this year. The answer is
pretty simple really: he’s been training. dR’s
USAC coaches have put him on a limited schedule
to train for the Olympics, so expect Donny to
concentrate on the UCI/NBL races as well as the
UCI Supercross events. Donny will be in Florida
for both NBL Nationals before heading off to
Madrid, Spain for the UCI Supercross there.
ALSO, dR has a new major corporate
sponsor. Donny will be rocking a new
jersey featuring both Formula and this new
sponsor, and when we say major we mean
major. This sponsor will be sure to get
people’s tongues wagging. Along with Monster
Energy Drink and Fly Racing, this new sponsor is
just another in a line of premium partners that
Donny and Formula will bring to BMX in 2007. As
always dR is rocking Elites aboard his white
Formula Solution Pro.

POST AND LEWIS TREK TO TENNESSEE, POST PERFECT
IN ’07 – Murfreesboro,
Tennessee – Two Formula / Monster / Fly
riders hit up the ABA’s Volunteer Nationals last
weekend and came away with success. Alise Post
and Lee “the Flea” Lewis showed up in Tennessee
to flex some Formula muscle and show ‘em how we
do it down south.
Alise Post / Women’s
Pro – Formula Solution Series Pro
Minus Hybrid – Alise picked up right where
she left off at Reno, doubling again for the
weekend in Women’s Pro. Guess that’s why she’s
numero uno, huh? She hasn’t lost a lap yet this
year and, as a result, Alise already has a huge
lead in pro points and its only two races into
the season.
Lee Lewis / 17 Expert
– Formula Solution Series Pro –
Lee always puts on a great show for the fans and
this race was no different. Lee rode the most
consistently out of any of the 17-18 Expert
riders in Tennessee and came away with a third
on Saturday and a Fourth on Sunday.

/ MONSTER / FLY’S DONNY ROBINSON BMX WORLD
POSTER BOY – El Cajon,
California –
Donny Robinson has yet another achievement
under his belt, this time featured as BMX World
Magazine’s poster boy for their December/January
issue. In fact, Donny is all over the issue,
and why not, after the incredible season he had
in 2006. Let’s see here’s a list of what dR got
done in 2006:
TITLES:
- · UCI/NBL North
American Champ
- · UCI Elite
Men’s Cruiser World Champion
- · UCI Supercross
Elite Men’s Overall Champion
- · ABA Pro
Cruiser National #1
- · NBL Elite
Men’s National #1
AWARDS
- · NORA Cup Racer
of the Year
- · ABA Golden
Crank Pro of the Year
There’s even a nice little
shot of dR “gettin’ down” in Colombia along with
a nice little “mini” interview after his NBL
Grand National win and subsequent Elite Men’s
National #1 title. Nice to see dR getting the
props he has worked for all his life. Get set
as dR makes a run to be a part of the first-ever
US Olympic team. Would you count him out?

FORMULA / MONSTER ENERGY / FLY RACING DEBUTS IN
RENO – Reno, Nevada
– Formula Bicycles made its 2007 debut last
weekend at the ABA Silver Dollar Nationals in
Reno with its brand new title partners, Monster
Energy Drink and Fly Racing. National #1 Pros
dR Donny Robinson and Alise Post joined newly
turned A Pro Warren McDow, 17 Expert Lee “The
Flea” Lewis, and 12 Expert Chad Kerley at the
ABA’s season opener and the new team did not
disappoint.
Donny Robinson /
AAPro – Formula Solution Series Pro
– dR was the pro to beat in’06 and he
looked like he picked up right
where
he left off last season. In Saturday’s AA Pro
main, after he was killing through motos and
semis, dR won the first two AA mains with ease,
but has a rough third round and ended up 2nd
overall. Donny dominated Pro Open both days
with two victories. Overall, two wins, a second
and a third ain’t bad.
Alise Post / Women’s
Pro – Formula Solution Series Pro
Minus Hybrid – Alise grabbed her #1 Pro
award Saturday morning and followed it up by not
losing a lap all weekend. She says her new
frame was the “easiest frame to get used to.”
This girl wins everything in sight and if she
was old enough to gamble the casinos would’ve
been in big trouble. Count Alise for the double
for the weekend.
Warren McDow / A Pro
– Formula Solution Series Pro Plus
– Warren made his ABA Pro debut and picked
quite a weekend to do it. Enough top ams turned
this weekend that it looked just like Warren’s
old 17-24 open class. Warren turned a few heads
by riding well on Saturday, second and third in
the first two motos
and a crash in turn one in the third moto.
Still finshed up with a tie for 3rd but got
fourth on the tie breaker. Sunday McDow was an
animal, dominating all his motos, quarters, and
semis. Mains were a different story with three
straight crashes. Welcome to the pro ranks,
kid!
Lee Lewis / 17 Expert
– Formula Solution Series Pro –
Lee built his new bike on Thursday,
practiced on Friday, and deemed it perfect. Lee
nailed down a 5th in class and a 4th in open on
Saturday. Sunday he was on fire, winning open
and grabbing a second in class.
Chad Kerley / 12
Expert – Formula Solution Series
Expert Plus – Chad didn’t have his best
weekend, but still made all his mains. 4th in
Open on Saturday and 7th in class. Sunday, he
grabbed a second in open and another 7th in
class. But you know what, he looked great
doing it. Still the most stylish little guy on
the planet.

FORMULA’S WARREN MCDOW TURNS PRO, LEE
“THE FLEA” ON FACTORY TEAM – El
Cajon, California – There’s going to be
another Factory Formula jersey lining up in the
A Pro gate at the Christmas Classic this week,
Formula Factory rider Warren McDow. After an
incredible amateur career that includes several
NBL National #1 titles, McDow has made the
choice to turn Pro. McDow is known for his
crazy first straight pull which should suit him
well in the pro ranks. For most of his career,
playing football has been a distraction for
McDow and hasn’t offered him much time on his
bike, usually making him a bit rusty on the
track from Spring to Fall. McDow
has
decided to devote his full attention to BMX and
give it the time and energy needed to make it as
a top Pro. Should make for yet another
incredible entry into the stacked A Pro class.
Warren will make his ABA Pro debut next week at
the Silver Dollar Nationals in Reno, Nevada.
In other team news, Formula
has added top amateur Lee “The Flea” Lewis to
its Factory team. Hailing from the state of
Texas, Lewis has made a name for himself as one
of the most exciting amateurs on the circuit.
People may recall the video that made its way
around BMX circles earlier in 2006 where Lee
broke his chain coming out of the first turn at
the ABA’s Desoto national, pumped and manualed
the rest of the track, and still won his moto.
Lee will make his Formula debut at the ABA
Silver Dollar Nationals in Reno next week.
With 29 sizes, Formula has
every sized, shaped and skilled rider covered.

DECEMBER 18,
2007..........FORMULA SIGNS #1 PRO ALISE
POST - El Cajon, California
- Formula Bicycle Company has announced that it
has signed 2006 ABA National #1 Women's Pro
Alise Post to it's factory team for 2007. "I've
worked with Alise and her family on and off for
the past 4 years and it's awesome to have her
back," stated Formula's Will Rells. "She's a
great competitor and we all knew the Women's Pro
class was in trouble when she made the jump this
year." Alise is a perfect complement to
Formula’s already stellar Factory Team.
Post,
who didn't turn Pro until the fourth race of the
season (the ABA's Winter Nationals in Phoenix),
not only won the Pro title in her rookie year,
but was also voted the ABA's Golden Crank Rookie
Pro of the Year, unheard of for a female rider.
Alise is also a four-time ABA National #1
amateur. "I'm really happy to be with Formula
and working with Will again," stated Post.
"We've always had great success and I look
forward to getting back to that." Alise's dad
Mark was equally enthusiastic. "We've seen the
Formula frames around all last year and Alise is
really excited about riding one. It’s kind of
like a homecoming for us"
Look for Alise to make her
Formula debut at the ABA Silver Dollar Nationals
in Reno in January aboard her Solution Pro Minus
Hybrid frame. The Pro Minus Hybrid combines
Expert-sized geometry with a Pro-sized tubeset,
but made for 1.5" tires. It keeps the frame
geometry correct unlike when trying to fit 1.5"
tires on a frame built for 1 3/8" tires. Formula
has 29 sizes to ensure a perfect fit for any
rider's size and skill combination.
There are some exciting
happenings going down with Formula these days
and expect some big announcements to come. Look
for more Formula roster additions in the days to
come as well, with a top amateur from the state
of Texas about to be finalized.
